Something White

In the midst of my late-pregnancy blues from this morning, I decided to kill some time and finally finish a project that I began back in October.

The project began with this...

...my beautiful Alfred Angelo wedding gown that I wore on May 22, 2011 when I married my best friend.  I bought it in 2010, when I made a trip down to Tucson to check out a sale at the designer's store with my brother and sister-in-law.  It was the first dress that I put on, and we all loved it.

Doesn't Nathan look thrilled??

And, just for one more look, here is a picture that I *love* of Pete looking my dress over for the first time.

I decided long ago that I did not want my dress to sit in a closet for 50 years, and that instead, I would make it into a Blessing Quilt for my future daughter to be wrapped in when she receives her Newborn Priesthood Blessing in church.  I wanted to create something that could be handed down from generation to generation, that my future grandchildren and great-grandchildren could also be blessed in.  So once we found out that we were having a baby girl, it was time to whip out the gown and...*gasp*...cut it up.

I will admit that it sat in my dining room for about
two weeks before I mustered up the guts to cut it apart.

Three months later, the quilt is finally finished.
This is what it looks like now...

When it is in storage it will be tied in the corset ribbon from the back of the dress.
It is not perfect, as I am not an expert quilter or seamstress...but I think it turned out pretty well. It is very obvious that it is handmade and full of mistakes...but isn't that how heirlooms are supposed to be?  I hope it is something that my future children, grandchildren, and more can look at and maybe feel a little bit of the love that Pete and I felt on our wedding day.  I know that sounds ridiculously cheesy...but its true (and I'm full of pregnancy hormones, so I'm allowed to be a little cheesy - don't hate me).

Now we just need to take a trip to the dry cleaners and it will be all ready for Baby K.  Maybe now she will feel it's time to make her arrival? (In case you couldn't tell, I'm a bit desperate.)  Everything is done now, Baby Bean!  It's time to get out!

And in the meantime, here's one more look at what used to be my dress, because, really, I will use any excuse to post wedding pictures. <3
