A long time ago in an Ikea store far far away...
I stumbled into a display baby room that had the cutest little chandelier and mosquito net I had ever seen. And the design of my little girl's nursery began.
Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite stories, and I felt it was perfect for Kennedy's room given the many references to the story that I have made with all of the changes that have occurred in my life over the past year. But I didn't want it to necessarily be a "themed" room. So I based everything on a color scheme instead, inspired by the colors in the chandelier. Without being able to buy anything (I didn't let myself spend any money until we knew for sure that she was not a boy), I started by making an inspiration board.
We began working on her room in September. After four months of work, Pete and I finished it shortly before Christmas.
And now, here is the photo tour of what turned out to be a slightly Alice in Wonderland-themed room filled with pinks, reds, greys and lots of personal touches.
I fell in love with that curtain the minute I saw it. Special thanks to a good friend who sent us the money to buy it :)
I made the crib skirt using the extra length from the curtain, and the pillows and quilt are hand-made by me as well.
The vintage Alice illustrations were burning in my mind from the very beginning. I love them.
Pete and I made the butterfly mobile from scratch...it took far too long, but turned out pretty cute.
My Grandmother Lois's silk baby dress hangs in the frame.
The hand-made pillows were one of the very last additions to the room, and ended up bringing everything together perfectly.
Thank goodness for Amazon for all of the various Alice editions I was able to buy at incredible prices.
The fortunes were kept from a lunch at P.F. Changs many months ago. The snowglobe was given to me by mother when I was young. The canvas was made by me to match the one in Ryan's bedroom.
The crib and wardrobe cabinet were generous gifts from Pete's parents.

We hid the changing station behind the closet doors due to the incredibly small amount of space in the bedroom.
Little K loves her bugs and glowy flower while getting changed.
Inside the wardrobe...

In the end, the nursery turned out exactly as I imagined. It is the happiest room in the house, and I love to just sit in there and think.
Now we just need to figure out how to get our little Bean to actually sleep in her room...but that's a battle for another day.

Wow! This is so very beautiful! You are quite the talented team. So beautiful! Love you so much and I am so very happy for you. Sister Campbell
